Extract the archive wherever you like, then run “VisualEngine” in the “Visual Engine” folder.
It also needs the X11 libraries libICE and libSM, present on common Linux desktops (packages libice6 and libsm6 on Ubuntu and Debian).
Rain FX and lit clouds: start X-Plane with “X-Plane 12 (Visual Engine)” in the applications menu; an X-Plane from Steam gets its launch option from the app.
Mac: coming soon.
